Patients with refractory angina pectoris (RAP) suffer from debilitating symptoms with considerable limitation of functional capacity and impaired health-related

One of the warning flags that you may have coronary artery disease (CAD) is angina pectoris (often referred to simply as angina). As plaque develops in your arteries, blood flow slows leaving your heart muscle deprived of adequate amounts of much needed oxygen-rich blood. Refractory Angina (RA) is a chronic condition (lasting more than 3 months) characterized by a feeling of pain or pressure in the chest due to myocardial ischemia and persists despite optimal medical or surgical treatments. Angina pectoris is chest discomfort that occurs when the heart muscle doesn’t receive sufficient blood supply. Refractory angina pectoris is defined, and traditional medical therapies are discussed. Then, current therapeutic options for patients with refractory angina are extensively reviewed. A multitude of therapeutic options exist for patients with refractory angina pectoris.
Angina pectoris is chest pain that results from ischemic episodes where there is reduced blood flow to the heart. Pain arises when nerve endings (nociceptors) of the heart are stimulated. Refractory angina pectoris is chest pain refractory to usual medical treatment and standard heart revascularization procedures. Patients with refractory The patient with refractory angina Refactory angina is a growing problem, as patients with more extensive coronary disease live longer. More than 100,000 new patients are diagnosed per year in the USA and 30,000–50,000 in Europe.
